Subject: ABS Stats in 2011 regarding religion
Hi all
Some of you may find the following 2011 stats interesting, commentators do seem to major on how much “no religion” and fringe religions have recently grown, but there were a huge number of folks that still simply nominated one of the top three boxes. And "no religion" sounds "free", whatever people may believe privately, a "religious" person sounds like somebody bound by old-fashioned regulations.
Also shows, I think, how accepting most Aussies are prepared to be of so many cultures and outward beliefs. As long as we can stay away from that “shame and blame” selfishness game that so much media thrives on.
Blessings all Steve
Postscript: In the 2016 census, church figures were lower, Catholics numbered 5¼ million or 22%, Anglicans 3 million or 13%, Uniting Church 870 thousand or 4% "No Religion" 7 million or 30%, Not Stated 2¼ million or 9½%.
Christianity remains the largest religious group reported overall (52%) with people aged over 65 reporting 70%.
More detailed figures should be available at the end of this year (2017).
