As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in him: |
Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. |
Beware lest any man spoil (seduce) you through philosophy and empty delusion, after the tradition of men, after the principles (structures) of the world, and not after Christ. |
For in him dwells all the fulness (completion) of the Godhead bodily. |
And you are complete in him, which is the head of all principality (chief) and power (authority): |
In whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: |
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also you are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who has raised him from the dead. |
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has he quickened (made alive) together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses (offences); |
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances (decrees) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; |
And having spoiled (unclothed) principalities (chiefs) and powers (authorities), he made a show of them openly , triumphing (making a noisy procession) over them in it. |
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holy-day, or of the new moon (month), or of the sabbath (rest) days: |
Which are a shadow of things to come but the body is of Christ. |
Let no man beguile (defraud) you of your reward in a voluntary (self-chosen) humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly (idly) puffed up by his fleshly mind (nous/knowledge), |
And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands (ligaments) having nourishment ministered and knit together increases with the increase of God. |
Therefore if you be dead with Christ from the principles (structures) of the world, why, as though living in the world, are you subject to ordinances (decrees) |
(Touch not; taste not; handle not; |
Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments (injunctions) and doctrines (teachings) of men ? |
Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in self-chosen worship (religion), and humility, and unsparing of the body; not of any value against the satisfying of the flesh. |
