"Holiday" - Madonna (1983)

Following Madonna's first self-titled album release in July, "Holiday / Lucky Star" was released in US mid August 1983 as a promo double-sided 12" single with "Holiday" receiving heavy airplay on Billboard's "Dance Club Songs", reaching number 1 in the US late September and remaining number 1 throughout October. "Holiday / I Know it" was officially released in US on September 7 1983, but not charting until late October, peaking at number 16 in January 1984.

"Holiday / Think of Me" was not released in UK until November, peaking at number 6 on February 18 1984, her first hit in the UK. In Australia it was released in April 1984, lasting 16 weeks in the charts, peaking at number 4.

"Lucky Star / I Know it" was published as a 12" and 7" single in the UK on September 8 1983, though apparently the 7" single was withdrawn after one week. It was re-issued in March 1984, lasting nine weeks in the charts and peaking at number 14 in April. In Australia it peaked at number 36. In the US it was released August 8 1984, peaking at number 4 in October 1984.

Holiday
Celebrate
Holiday
Celebrate

Chorus
If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
Just one day out of life
It would be, it would be so nice

Everybody spread the word
We're gonna have a celebration
All across the world
In every nation
It's time for the good times
Forget about the bad times, oh yeah
One day to come together to release the pressure
We need a holiday

Chorus

You can turn this world around
And bring back all of those happy days
Put your troubles down
It's time to celebrate
Let love shine
And we will find
A way to come together, can make things better
We need a holiday

Chorus
