On November 14, 2004, Anthony Callea performed "The Prayer" in the grand final of Australian Idol, where he finished as runner-up to Casey Donovan. It led to his immediate signing with Sony/BMG Records, the release of the single in December 2004, one that became the fastest and highest-selling single in Australian history.
