Auditions were held in major cities around Australia to find each season's contestants. Any contestant who got a "yes" from a majority of judges was put through to the top 118 in Sydney. The TV episodes showed the most interesting auditions, which generally meant the worst and the best. July 13 Audition 1: Melbourne/Tamworth July 14 Audition 2: Canberra/Brisbane July 20 Audition 3: Adelaide/Hobart/Perth July 21 Audition 4: Darwin/Sydney July 27 From 118 To 72: The top 118 are off to Sydney to see if they will last the three hard working days to make it to the top 30. Sunday August 1 Top 30: Who will make the top 30 and who will be sent packing August 8 Heat 1 First group of 10 with verdict August 9 Hayley Courtney Chanel August 15 Heat 2 2nd group of 10 with verdict August 16 Angie Daniel Amali August 22 Heat 3 3rd group of 10 with verdict August 23 Rickie-Lee Casey Dan August 29 Wildcard group of 10 with verdict August 30 Emelia Anthony Marty (Second Chance) The judges selected Emelia Rusciano and Anthony Callea to move on into the Top 12 of the competition, before the hosts revealed the Top 2 vote getters. Marty Worrall received most votes, and completed the top 12. Of the twelve finalists, three were from Sydney, two were from Melbourne, and one each from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Hobart, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide and Bega. Each week following, contestants chose a song to a weekly theme on the Sunday night. (As the number of contestants got smaller, they sang two or three songs each). As in the semi-finals, each performance was critiqued by the judges, and then there was (approximately) 24 hours of voting by phone or SMS, before the results were announced on the Monday night.
